How to Connect a Lamp Holder

A lamp holder is a type of clamp that attaches to a flat surface, such as a desk or counter, to hold an adjustable lamp. This style of lamp is typically used for engineering and drafting tasks, where an intense light directed at a specific area on the drafting table is desirable. One advantage of a lamp holder is that it can be removed fairly quickly and attached to a different desk or other flat surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two pieces of foam padding with scissors into the same size as the rectangular surface of the upper and lower clamps on the lamp holder. These parts typically have serrated edges for traction, but the teeth can bite into wood surfaces and damage the desk or counter.

    • 2

Place one piece of foam on the lower, L-shaped clamp for the lamp holder and slide the pieces under the back edge of a desk or counter. Hold the bottom half of the clamp and the foam in place with your fingers.

    • 3

Place the remaining piece of foam on the desk or counter surface and set the upper half of the clamp on top of it. Push the metal rod on the upper half of the clamp into the hole in the lower half and hold both pieces in position with your fingers.

    • 4

Twist the threaded handle on the bottom of the lamp holder clamp clockwise to tighten the parts on the edge of the desk or counter.

    • 5

Push the metal tube on the end of the lamp into the hole on the top of the lamp holder. The lamp rotates freely in the holder base.
