How to Make Beaded Chandelier Bulb Covers

Chandeliers can be very plain or very elaborate. As the amount of design components increase, the price generally increases as well. Individuals can purchase plain chandeliers and decorate them with items such as glass beads to provide an elaborate appearance without the additional cost.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the end of a piece of 24-gauge silver wire around one of chandelier's sockets. If there is a ridge in the socket, place your wire in the ridge so that it will provide a stable base for your beaded cover. Crimp the wire at the point where the wire overlaps. Remove the wire from the socket and cut the wire on both ends approximately 1 inch from the crimps.

    • 2

Measure the length of the wire between the crimps. Slide beads on the wire. You will need one bead for every inch of length.

    • 3

Measure the distance from the area on the base where you wrapped the wire to the large, rounded tip of the light bulb. Add 7 inches to this measurement. Measure, mark and cut a piece of wire to this measurement. You will need one vertical wire for every inch of base wire length.

    • 4

Position the end of one vertical wire perpendicular to the base wire. Crimp the vertical wire 1/2 inch from the top. Slide the crimped portion over the top of the base wire between two beads. Twist the two pieces of vertical wire directly underneath the base wire. Cut off the excess length from the 1/2-inch fold on the vertical wire. Repeat this step with the remaining vertical wires, positioning one wire between each bead gap along the length of the base wire.

Flip the beaded frame over so the base rests on a flat surface and the vertical wires are facing up toward you. Slide beads onto each wire until 1/2 inch of wire is left exposed. Crimp each wire in half, and fold the excess wire up and around the side of the bead to secure the beads onto the wire. Any excess wire can be twisted between the last bead and the second to last bead.

Pick up the cover, turn it right side up and wrap it around the bulb. Twist the ends of the base wire together and trim off any excess wire. The vertical wires hang straight down along the sides of the bulb.
