Measure from the base of your lamp, where the cord emerges, to the floor outlet. Use a flat, straight path, such as down the wall and across the floor. Record the wall section as one measurement and the floor section as another.
Place the backless, plastic tubes from your cord cover kit onto your scrap cardboard. Cut each piece to the measurements you took, and lightly sand away any rough edges. Spray paint the tubes' exteriors to match the area they’ll cover; for example, if you have hardwood floors, spray the piece brown that will lead to the outlet. Allow the paint to totally dry before proceeding.
Insert your lamp’s cord into the painted tube that will hang on the wall by surrounding the cord with the open, backless part of the tube. Repeat the process for the floor section of painted tube and the flat plug cord.
Peel away the extremely sticky backing from your cord cover tubing, and attach the tubing directly to the wall and floor in straight lines. Use a vertical level and a carpenter’s square if you’re worried about exact placement. Attach the tubing to the wall and floor slowly, in short increments, as the sticky material is difficult to remove once applied.
Plug the lamp's cord and the flat plug cords together where the two cord cover sections meet. Now the plugs are the only visually apparent lamp wiring. If the plug connections still bother you, use decorative elements or furniture to block the cord connections from view. Place a large potted plant, a stack of vintage suitcases or an occasional chair in front of the plug connection, if necessary.
