How to Install a Metal Lantern to a Brick Wall

Decorating brick walls is not an easy task. One way to decorate these walls is by attaching wall sconces and metal lanterns hung on anchored hooks. The anchor size and type will depend on the weight and type of metal lantern that you want to hang. A decorative lantern that will hold tea lights will weigh less than an electrical lantern with a light bulb.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the anchor for the project. A sleeve anchor is a medium-duty anchor made for holding items such as bars and railings. A metal lantern, whether electric or a candle holder, is somewhat heavy.

    • 2

Select the space on the wall where the lantern holder will rest. Mark the holes in the holder with a piece of white chalk.

    • 3

Pre-drill the holes 1/8 of an inch deeper than the anchor on the spots marked with white chalk, using a hammer drill.

    • 4

Position the metal lantern holder on the wall.

    • 5

Insert the sleeve anchors through the holes in the lantern holder and into the pre-drilled holes.

    • 6

Tighten the sleeve anchors by turning them clockwise with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 7

Attach the lantern to the holder by placing the lantern on the holder's hook or connecting the slide-in backing.
