Hiding Ceiling Rope Lights

Ceiling rope lights are an alternative to traditional ceiling light fixtures in that they feature continuous rope-like lights that generally cover a ceiling's perimeter. Some ceiling rope lights are embedded in ceilings while others may be attached and unattached from ceilings as desired. Hiding ceiling rope lights for a special event or other reason depends on what form of rope light you are dealing with as well as ceiling light placement, as not all rope ceiling lights are featured around the perimeter of a ceiling.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a ceiling canopy to hide rope lights that are centered on the ceiling as opposed to rope lights surrounding a ceiling's perimeter.

    • 2

Make a fabric border for perimeter rope ceiling lights using lengths of scrap fabric. Measure the entire ceiling perimeter to determine how much fabric you need, and decide on the fabric's width (how much fabric you want to cover the rope lighting). Sew scraps together to create the desired length. Keep the fabric at least 1 or 2 inches away from the actual lights. Use tacks or all-purpose adhesive to place the fabric border over the rope lights.

Remove ceiling rope lights that are not embedded within the ceiling until needed. You may opt to keep ceiling rope lights embedded in your ceiling off and use alternative lighting methods. Alternative lighting options include floor and table lamps, chandeliers and similar lighting fixtures, recessed ceiling lights, fluorescent tube lighting and ceiling fan lights.
