How to Turn an IKEA Pendant Lamp Into a Petal Lamp

Update ordinary pendant lamps found at Ikea with felt petals. Circles of felt will transform the light fixture into a focal point you can hang in a living room, bedroom, kid's room, office or kitchen. The look will vary depending on the color of felt used, as well as the style of application you choose to work with.
  1. Pendant Lights

    • Ikea has a wide rage of plastic pendant lights available. Choose one that appeals to your existing decor. For instance, in a sleek modern space, a pendant with straight lines be the most suitable, while a space with an eclectic look will do well with a curvy variety. Light up a work space with a series of pendants or use a solitary light for a reading lamp above your favorite chair. If you choose to do a series of lamps, unify the look by adding petals of the same color.

    Felt Petals

    • Cut felt into circles, which will become the petals. White and cream are neutral color options that will work in any space, but you can also use colorful felt to fit your decor. One idea is to cut circles out of white and light blue felt. Or, design a monochromatic petal lamp with cherry red circles of felt. For a kid's room, use a youthful color scheme of cherry, lemon and lime. Cut the felt by hand or use a fabric hole punch to make short work of the job. The circles don't need to be perfectly round and can be 1 to 3 inches in diameter.

    Patterns

    • Apply the felt petals to the Ikea pendant lamp with a hot glue gun. One method is to fold the circle in half and glue along the fold. Press the felt petals close together and apply them all over the lamp shade. Another way is to glue them flat with a dab of glue in the middle of each circle. Arrange the petals in patterns for a different look. For instance, stack petals in vertical stacks or horizontal bands around the perimeter of the lamp.

    Paper Pendant Ideas

    • Instead of a plastic pendant, opt for a paper lantern pendant and dress it up with wax paper petals. Petals can be cut to any shape or size, which means you can experiment and customize a design that appeals to you. Begin at the bottom of the paper pendant and layer petals into place using clear tape. Whether you choose to create petals with a circular edge or a geometric rectangular edge, will depend largely on personal taste. For a varied look, add petals of different shapes in a random pattern.
