Determine where you want to install the LED strip lights. Most often, these strips are best suited for under-counter lighting. However, you can also install them on the sides of your cabinets to illuminate a gap between the units. For example, if your kitchen sink has a cabinet on both sides, you can install LED strip lights on the sides of these cabinets to provide additional lighting in this area.
Measure the areas you want to install the LED strip lights, and note where outlets are located. If there are any breaks in the area where the LED lights will be installed, measure these to determine how many strip extenders you need to purchase.
Purchase the necessary equipment, including LED light strips, extenders and plugs. You can purchase these items as a kit or separately in home improvement, hardware and mass retail stores.
Lay out the strip lights in the areas you wish to install them, hooking each strip and any strip extenders together as necessary. Plug the last strip into the switch, and plug the switch into the outlet plug. Plug the whole chain into the wall outlet. Check that all of the lights are working properly, and unplug it.
Draw a straight line with a ruler and pencil where you want to install the LED strip lights. This acts as a guide for installing the clips.
Install the clips on your cabinets according to the manufacturer's directions using your guideline. The length of your strip lights will determine how you space the clips. In most cases, the clips come with self-tapping screws that you can easily screw into your cabinets with a screwdriver.
Snap the LED strip lights and extender(s) into the clips. Plug the strip plug into the wall outlet.
