Hampton Bay 80697 Installation Instructions

The Hampton Bay 80697, also known as the Hampton Bay Vintage Globe light kit, is designed to be installed on any ceiling fan that is light-kit compatible. Most ceiling fans come with light kits that match the fan, and many of those give you the option to install the ceiling fan with or without the light kit, or change the light kit to one more compatible with your decor. The appearance of the schoolhouse glass globe that attaches to the single socket light kit is suitable for smaller rooms and in rooms that have supplemental lighting.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your ceiling fan so the blades spin. Turn off the 15- and 20-amp breakers in your breaker box one at a time until you discover the breaker that powers your fan. The fan will stop turning once you find the right breaker.

    • 2

Leave the ceiling fan breaker in the “Off” position. Place a note on the exterior of the breaker box to inform family members to leave the breaker off while you work on the ceiling fan.

    • 3

Remove the screws from the side of the ceiling fan switch housing to release the cap from the bottom of the housing. Locate the switch housing on the bottom of the fan beneath the fan blades.

    • 4

Pop the plastic knockout plug from the center of the switch housing cap with your fingers. The plug covers the small hole in the cap.

    • 5

Thread the wires from the Hampton Bay 80697 light kit through the hole in the outside of the cap. The light kit has a black and a white wire protruding from a threaded nipple. Twist the cap clockwise onto the nipple until the cap sits flush against the light kit.

    • 6

Secure the light kit to the cap by threading the locknut supplied with the light kit over the wires. Twist the locknut onto the nipple until it is tight.

    • 7

Pull the loose blue and the loose white wire from inside the switch housing. The blue wire supplies electricity to the light kit and the white wire, the neutral, completes the circuit.

    • 8

Connect the blue wire from the switch housing to the black wire from the Hampton Bay 80697 light kit. Twist a wire connector onto the black and blue wire to secure them together. Use another wire connector to secure the white wire from the Hampton Bay 80697 light kit to the white wire from inside the ceiling fan switch housing.

    • 9

Insert the cap back into the switch housing. Secure the cap, with the light kit attached, to the housing with the screws you removed from the side of the housing previously.

    • 10

Install a 40- or 60-watt ceiling fan light bulb into the light kit’s light socket. Insert the light globe into the light kit. Twist the screws attached to the light kit to secure the light globe to the kit.

    • 11

Turn the ceiling fan breaker on inside the breaker box. Pull the chain on the Hampton Bay light kit to ensure the light operates correctly.
