How to Make an Asian Star Lantern

Asian star lanterns can add a decorative touch to a room in your home or serve as unique party decorations. Because they are made of paper, you have endless color and print options and can easily match them to any decor or theme. Instructions

    • 1

Download a paper star lantern template from an online source.

    • 2

Print the template on the back of the paper that you will use to construct the lantern.

    • 3

Cut along the solid lines, and fold along the dotted lines of the template to form a point.

    • 4

Glue each tab to the inside of the point.

    • 5

Create a design by punching holes with a hole punch to allow the light to shine through.

    • 6

Glue the points of the star together, using the tabs, but leave one opening between two of the points.

    • 7

Thread a needle with thick thread. Tie a knot in one end, and then thread it through one of the open ends of the point, about halfway down. Repeat with the other open end of the point.

    • 8

Plug in a fairy light and touch it every 30 minutes for a few hours to test the temperature. The light might get warm, but should not get hot enough to ignite the paper, even after hours of use. After you have determined that the light is safe, insert the fairy light into the star.

Pull the two ends of thread to close the star, and tie the two ends of thread together to secure it.
