How to Hang a Hampton Bay Flex Track Light

A track lighting system is a type of lighting system that has multiple lights installed along a track that is attached to the ceiling. Some tracks are flexible, allowing you to place curves in the track. One brand of track lighting products is Hampton Bay, which is exclusively carried by Home Depot. You can install this system by removing an existing ceiling light and connecting the track lighting to that circuit.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the light fixture you're replacing from your home's main electrical box.

    • 2

Test the circuit by flipping the light switch on and off. If the light turns on, return to the main box and turn off the correct circuit. Test the light switch again. If the light remains off, remove the lightbulb from the fixture and test the circuit with a voltage tester. Return to the main box and turn off the correct circuit if you get a reading; otherwise, it is safe to proceed.

    • 3

Unscrew the light fixture, and slowly lower it. Untwist the plastic connector caps and separate the wires to the light from the wires in the ceiling. If the light fixture is heavy, have an assistant hold the light, while you disconnect the wiring.

    • 4

Attach the wires for the transformer to the wires leading from the ceiling with the plastic connector caps. Connect the black wire to the black wire, white to white, and the ground wires, which are green or bare, together. Lift the transformer up to the ceiling, and screw it into place.

    • 5

Lightly trace the path of the track lighting onto the ceiling with a pencil.

    • 6

Slide the track through the slot on the bottom of the transformer.

    • 7

Slide the lights and the stanchions onto the track, moving them into the desired position. Place a stanchion by each light for extra support.

    • 8

Attach the stanchions to the ceiling by driving wall anchors into the ceiling.

    • 9

Screw the lightbulbs into the fixtures, if they haven't already been installed.

    • 10

Restore power to the circuit, and test the lights.
