Alternative Ways to Use Candle Lanterns

Candle lanterns hold one or more candles securely inside a glass globe designed to enhance the natural beauty of candlelight. Although typically not as bright as propane lanterns or battery-operated lanterns, the light is softer, creating a comforting glow. These versatile lanterns are both practical and decorative and operate without the noise associated with propane lanterns.
  1. Camping

    • Candle lanterns can be used to light the interior of the tent, and they also provide gentle heat. The heat dries excess moisture inside the tent and reduces condensation on tent walls. Although the live flame poses some risk of fire, the glass globe prevents contact with surrounding fabric or camping materials. When used as directed, candle lanterns are both safe and effective for lighting a tent. Even small lanterns provide enough light for reading or writing.

    Lighting the Night

    • Candle lanterns hung around the patio or garden add ambiance to outside gatherings. Because the glass defuses the light and casts it over a wide space, a natural glow bathes the area, setting the mood for quiet conversations. For those quiet evenings under the stars or for intimate gatherings of close friends, candle lanterns enhance intimacy and promote personal interaction with a noiseless glow.

    Emergency Lighting

    • Keeping a supply of candles and your candle lanterns on hand for times when the electricity goes out ensures you will always have lighting. These lanterns do not pose the health risks associated with burning fuel inside the home, and they don't rely on the power of batteries that may fail in storage. Candles do not require special storage -- other than a cool, dry place -- and are inexpensive to replace.

    Repelling Insects

    • Candle lanterns serve double duty when you replace the candle with insect-repelling citronella candles. Suspended from the eaves of the porch or hung near an outside seating area, the odor emitted from the candle lantern chases away mosquitoes and other biting insects. Take these candles along to barbecues or other outside activities to keep the area insect-free.
