Take apart the bedroom set to ready it for painting. Remove the mattress and box spring from the room and dismantle the bed frame and headboard. Clear off the tops of the dresser and nightstand, and remove the drawers and anything within them. Sand the surfaces of each high gloss laminate item with a fine grit sand paper before coating with a thin layer of primer. Finish with the wall paint color and finish of your choice -- both flat and semi-gloss will work, depending upon the effect that you want. Let the paint dry overnight before reassembling the furniture.
Makeover the dresser and nightstand by upgrading the drawer pulls. Remove the current drawer pulls by unfastening them with a screwdriver. Insert new knobs or pulls purchased from your local home improvement or antique shop into the existing holes, then attach with screws from the other side.
Change the entire look of the bedroom set by placing self-adhesive tiles over the entire surface of each piece, or arrange an accent row of tiles on just the headboard and dresser. Rough up the area where the tiles are to go with fine-grit sandpaper, then peel off the back of each tile and secure into place.
