Remove any existing shelves and their brackets using a drill. Completely remove the brackets from the shelf and set the brackets aside. Position the shelf within the pantry again at the desired height. Set a carpentry level on top of the shelf and mark the side boards with the locations of the ends of the shelf when level.
Completely extend a shelf bracket and position it within the pantry with its larger frame side positioned against the frame of the pantry. Mark the attachment screw holes in the side board. Remove the bracket and drill out each hole. Replace the bracket and attach it in place with 3/4-inch wood screws. Repeat for the other bracket.
Slide the original shelf board in between the extended ends of the shelf brackets. Use a tape measure to determine how much of the shelf must be removed for the brackets to operate smoothly. Mark this amount on the shelf and cut it off with a saw. If installing new shelf boards, simply measure the distance between the two extended brackets and cut a board to fit that distance.
Position the shelf board between the extended brackets. Mark each of the attachment holes in the ends of the board. Remove the board and drill through the markings. Attach the board to the brackets with 3/4-inch wood screws.
Position a third bracket underneath the shelf and drill the rear plate to the back of the pantry with 3/4-inch wood screws. Mark the locations of the holes on the movable section of the bracket on the underside of the shelf board. Drill into each marking. Attach the bracket with 3/4-inch wood screws.
