Cover the doors with a fresh coat of paint. Wash the closet doors with a mixture of 1 tablespoon tri-sodium phosphate and 1/2 gallon water to remove any dirt, grime or dust before applying a latex primer. Allow the primer to dry for at least three to four hours before applying a semi-gloss paint that complements the room’s colors.
Install hook-and-loop panels or detachable metal or plastic hooks and hang mirrors from the door. The mirrors make the space feel larger without costing a fortune.
Cover the doors with vinyl wall decals. The decals are available in a variety of sizes and themes and suitable for children and adults. Wash the doors with a TSP solution before applying the decals to your traditional closet doors.
Create a collage with family photos or images produced by your favorite artists. Attach the photos or prints to the door with poster putty. Paint the door before hanging the pictures if it’s visibly dirty or dingy.
Paint a mural on the doors. Close the doors and sketch the mural’s design over both doors. Create the mural with semi-gloss paint yourself or enlist the help of an artistic friend or family member to add character to the space.
Cover the doors with wallpaper. Choose a pattern that works with the existing colors in the space or continue wallpaper that’s already present in the room to create a seamless effect.
