Choose the location in your home where you want to build your bar. Keep in mind that for some features you might add, you will have to make electrical and plumbing connections. The nearer you place your bar to the wiring and piping it must tie into, the easier and cheaper your project will be.
Measure the space selected for your bar. These measurements will determine how large your bar can be, which in turn impacts on the features it can have. Your budget will also factor into your design choices.
Choose the features you would like to have in your bar, such as a built-in kegerator dispenser, a sink for washing glasses or even backlights. You will also need storage space under the counter, and shelves behind the bar for bottles, glasses and other items.
Sketch on paper a rough design for your bar, as you envision it in the room. Include your measurements for both the room and the bar in the sketch.
Create a numbered legend at the bottom to indicate the parts of the bar made of galvanized steel and the parts made of wood. For example, one of the most common uses for galvanized steel on a bar is for the front panels. This will be attractive and will protect the front from scuffs or spills.
Select other materials and furnishings for your bar that will work well with the décor. Chairs with metal legs and a large mirror on the back wall would coordinate with the galvanized steel bar front.
