Space Templates

Creating a space template for a chaise longue requires the dimensions of the specific piece of furniture in question, particularly when working with paper templates. Computer programs may provide a variety of chaise longue types to choose from, allowing you to get a basic idea of space requirements based on a generic form.

Chairs

• Like chaise longues, chairs assume myriad sizes, depending on their nature and type. A reclining chair space template, for instance, must accommodate for the extension of the front portion of the chair at its full length and any recline to the back. A chair with an ottoman, meanwhile, requires a space template long enough to accommodate for the length of the chair, the length of the ottoman and any distance between the two. As with a chaise longue, you must know the basic dimensions of a specific piece to create an exact space template, though computer programs provide various generic templates you can use.

Creating Templates

• Creating a template for paper space templates requires minimal work. You need to create a scale drawing of the room you want to design, or cut a piece of paper to the same width-by-length ratio of the room. After doing this, get the basic measurements of your chaise longue or chair by looking at the manufacturer's information or by measuring it. You can look online for dimensions for items you don't own. Scale these measurements down to the scale of your room template using basic math and create a rectangular or square template for your chaise or chair.
