DIY Lattice Decorations

Lattice is traditionally used in country gardens, but it can bring a touch of the outdoors inside when used in decorating. It is affordable, lightweight and easy to work with. Traditional lattice is constructed in an X-shaped design, but contemporary lattice often makes use of panels with vertical and horizontal lattice strips of varying widths. You can purchase lattice in wood or plastic varieties. Lattice can be used to decorate any room in your home, as well as porches and patios.
  1. Walls and Ceilings

    • Cover an accent wall with lattice for a dramatic effect. Lattice can be used for wainscoting as well. Cover the bottom half of the walls in a room with lattice, and top the lattice off with decorative molding. Cover a ceiling with lattice, adding spacers between the lattice and the ceiling. Hang baskets of flowers from the lattice for a country garden feel inside your home. Make an accent on a plain wall on each side of a large piece of furniture, such as a hutch. Cut lattice 2 feet wide and the height of the wall. Add decorative trim on each side of the lattice.

    Hanging Wall Art

    • Make a photo collage picture frame from a strip of lattice by securing photos to the back of the lattice, using the lattice openings for frames. Finish off with decorative trim around the edges. String lights, beads or flower garlands through the openings in the lattice and use as decorative wall hangings. Make a jewelry organizer from a strip of lattice. Paint a strip of lattice and hang on the wall behind a dresser. Add decorative trim around the edges and attach screw hooks to the lattice.

    Decorating Porches and Patios

    • Cover an open end of the porch with lattice. Train a fragrant flowering vine up the lattice. This will provide privacy as well as add an interesting touch to your porch. Add country charm to your home by adding a lattice underpinning around the bottom of your house. Make lattice planters for your patio or porch. Paint white and add brightly colored flowers. Make a lattice arch at the end of your walkway. Plant flowers to train up the arch. Cover plain window boxes with lattice to create an interesting effect.

Lattice Decorations in a Child's Room

    • Attach a wide strip of lattice to a wall in the corner of the room and use plastic S hooks to hang stuffed animals. Glue lattice to a wall behind the bed to make a space-saving headboard. Make an art gallery wall in a child's room to display their works of art. Paint lattice strips in bright colors, attach clips to the strip and attach the strip to the wall. Clip the child's paintings and drawings on the strip for display.
