How to Decorate With Origami Cranes

Origami cranes are created using the Japanese art of paper folding, where a single square piece of paper is folded into complex shapes. Origami cranes may be created at home or purchased from online vendors. While they are charming left strewn around on flat surfaces, there also are several ways to use a large number of them to decorate your home or your event.

Instructions

  1. Garland

    • 1

Prepare your garland by arranging the paper cranes in a circle, facing inward or outward with their wingtips touching. This allows you to determine how large your garland can be given the number of cranes you have.

    • 2

Apply a small dot of glue to the tip of of one crane's wing.

    • 3

Attach the wingtip of the glued crane to the wingtip of another one. The cranes should be angled appropriately to take their place in a circle rather than set side to side.

    • 4

Repeat the gluing steps for additional cranes until you have completed your circle. Use a garland of cranes as a centerpiece with a candle burning in the center.

    Chain

    • 5

Thread a large needle with a length of yarn.

    • 6

Tie a knot in the end of the yarn.

    • 7

Insert the needle through the hole at the base of the cranes body and push it out through the center of the crane's back.

    • 8

Slide the crane down the yarn until it rests on the knot, which keeps it from falling off the yarn.

    • 9

Tie another knot in the string above the crane where you want the next crane to rest.

    • 10

Continue adding cranes in this manner until you have a chain of cranes.

    • 11

Tie a loop in the end of the cord and hang the chain.

    • 12

Create multiple chains and hang them across a window as a creative window dressing or hang them from tree branches at an outdoor event.
