Decorative Picture Hanging Ideas

You have a new house or are tired of your existing style. It is time for a change, to spice up your rooms with new color and decoration. Hanging frames decoratively is one way to enhance a room by adding a personal touch for little extra expense. A little paint and decorative ways to hang your memories or treasured possessions will add character and a fresh look to your home.
  1. Methods

    • The tools you use to hang your frames can be just as creative and decorative as the frames themselves. Consider using ribbon to create a classy or cute look on your wall. Hang the frames on decorative plate racks with ribbon or wire. Wire can enhance a country themed room or provide a line to hang multiple frames. Decorative clips, hangers or clothespins also enhance photo decoration.

    Multiples

    • If you have a large, open wall, place multiple frames on one wall to create a collage of frames and pictures. Arrange the frames on the floor first to determine the order and position on the wall. Hang the frames at different heights. You can also hang pictures in a sequential order, such as first date, wedding, honeymoon and first child. Use horizontal and vertical prints. Consider whether you want straight lines or cluttered, haphazard look.

    Sizes

    • Play with different sizes of frames on one wall or on various walls. For instance, on one wall use only 4-by-6-inch frames. On another wall use only 5-by-7-inch frames and so on. You can also use the multiple frames approach and create a collage of frames of different sizes and shapes on one focal wall in your room. Hang your frames decoratively in accordance to both the size of the frame and size of the wall. Place big frames on large wall spaces and smaller frames on smaller spaces to honor proportion.

    Various Frames

    • Consider buying frames of different colors, sizes, textures, shapes and styles. Use these as your room accents and hang them on a large wall. Intermix sizes and styles. Use a large print as a center piece or focal point. There should be some method to your madness. Place complementing colors and styles next to one another and intersperse frames that may be unusual.
