Moving Announcement Ideas

When you move, it is good etiquette to let others know of your change in address. Family and friends will want to know how to contact you. Rather than taking the time to make personal phone calls to everyone in your address book, send out moving announcements in bulk that provide family and friends with the information they need.
  1. Electronic Announcement

    • Many people rely on email as their primary source of communication. If you have all of your friends' and relatives' email addresses on file, you can send them an email announcing your relocation. You can make the email straightforward and provide the basic information, such as your new address and phone number, or you can create an attractive moving announcement using a design template on your computer, which you email as an attachment.

    Postcards

    • A postcard is a flat card that has two sides. One side of the card is usually of a picture, while the back of the postcard contains a message to the recipient. As a moving announcement idea, take a picture of your new home and turn that image into a postcard. On the backside of the card you can say "We moved!" and provide recipients with your new home address. Another idea for a postcard is to create a miniature map of where your new home address is. Make sure the map includes street names. Use a star sticker to identify your home on the map and stamp your address onto the backside.

    Fliers

    • A flier is a sheet of paper that contains information. You can create a moving announcement flier, make as many copies as you need and stick them into envelopes to mail out to family and friends. Make the moving announcement flier on your computer and include an image of something moving-related, such as moving boxes or a moving truck. A flier gives you more room to write a message, besides only including the new contact information. Use the space to your advantage by writing recipients a note or a poem about your move. A poem about moving might sound like "Susan and Bill moved up the hill to get a better view; Now they live on Mulberry Street with three bedrooms, instead of two."

    Magnets

    • A trendy way to spread the news about any type of announcement --- moving, babies, weddings --- is to make and send people magnets to put onto the refrigerator. A moving announcement magnet can be created in the shape of a house and contain your name and new address. Not only is this an effective way to send out your information, but it also allows recipients to use the magnet however they please. And, most likely, your new address will not get lost because it will be on the fridge.
