Ideas to Decorate My Bedroom With Flowers & Butterflies

Using flowers and butterflies to decorate a room for a child or an adult adds a whimsical magic to the room. Depending on the age of the room's inhabitant, choose colors, wall decorations and other room accents to create a subtle or vibrant room to meet your needs.
  1. Bedding

    • Choose bedding for your room before moving to the other components. Matching paint to bedding is easier than matching bedding to paint colors. Visit your local home supply store to find a bedding set with butterflies and flowers on it. If you cannot find a color palette or style that you like, make your own using fabrics from your local craft store. Brighter colors give the room a more vibrant look for teens while softer colors are more appropriate for a baby's room. For adults, choose deeper hues to give the room a richer feel.

    Painting

    • When choosing room colors, use the colors in your bedding as a guide. Choose one or two primary colors from the bedding as the palette. For example, if the bedding is bright green and pink, choose shades of one or both colors for the walls. First paint the walls in a solid color. Alternatively, paint one wall with an accent color; use the color scheme to paint flowers or butterfly shapes on the wall. Another idea is to paint the wall a solid, light blue, and use acrylic paints to create a mural on the wall. Paint a country garden, and add butterflies flitting among the flowers. To achieve a mural, use stencils, and freehand the artwork or project an image on the wall with an overhead projector. Project the image on the wall, and trace the image with chalk. You can then paint the image with acrylic paints. Extend the mural onto the ceiling, painting it blue as well. Once the paint dries, paint white clouds.

    Wall Decorations

    • After painting the walls, add wall hangings to complement your theme. For example, create a daisy-shaped mirror using a round mirror and wooden daisy cutout. Look for cutouts at your local craft store, or make your own with plywood. Paint the cutout white to match any décor, or choose an accent from the bedding. Another idea is to use 3D butterflies. Look for butterflies at the craft store or home supply store in either wire or silk construction. Hang the butterflies on the wall in a bunching to recreate a swarm of butterflies in flight. If you prefer, use fishing line to hang the butterflies from the ceiling, or attach silk flowers on top of the painted mural to give it a lifelike look.

    Accent Pieces

    • The final touches to the room draw the theme together. Hang flower or butterfly lights around the top of the room or around window frames to provide a whimsical glow. Place a flower- or butterfly-shaped rug on the floor in complementing colors. For window treatments, look for sheer curtains with silk flowers sewn into them. Another idea is to create curtain ties with silk flowers or butterflies glued on them. Finish the room with a vase of silk flowers on the dresser.
