DIY Easy Skip Trowel

Skip troweling is a method of creating texture and dimension on your wall or ceiling in less steps than traditional textured plaster techniques. Skip troweling is done in one coat, allowing you to paint or glaze the wall as soon as the wall is dry. Speed the process even further and add colorant to the joint compound, eliminating the need to paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Add water to the joint compound and mix it with a drill and mixer paddles. Add the water in small amounts until the joint compound is like thick paint.

    • 2

Scoop up some joint compound on the wide edge of a trowel and apply it to the wall. Push the joint compound up the wall, holding the trowel at a 45 degree angle.

    • 3

Come back over the wall surface with the trowel held flat. Draw it back in short strokes, from different directions, creating the desired texture of skip troweling.
