How to Tie Down a Dutch Home

"Dutch home" is another term for a manufactured modular home. Single-story modular homes, usually built in two sections, are delivered and installed onto concrete pads in mobile home parks. The homes are less expensive, and rather than being installed on cement foundations over full basements, the homes are mechanically fastened to the ground after being mounted to a pier-style construction. The fastening devices are approved and rated by government and building agencies based on the geographic area and the size of the home.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Check with the local building agencies, and the modular home park offices to identify the type and number of anchors required for Dutch homes in your geographic area. Areas of the country known for high winds and powerful storms have more stringent requirements for home tie-downs than those in other areas of the country.

    • 2

Attach the ground-anchoring device to the ground, or to the cement pad before the trailer is delivered to the pad. Access to the pad and installing the anchors is much simpler before the mobile home is delivered, because the area under the Dutch home is only 24 to 32 inches tall. The work can be done from under the home, but it will be more difficult.

    • 3

Attach the galvanized steel strap to the anchoring system by wrapping it through the anchor, and fastening the strap with the strap buckle. Cut the strap so that it is at least twice the length of the distance between the trailer pad and the height of the trailer. The strap will be laced through the Dutch home's frame when the modular building is in place.

    • 4

Run the strap through one of the slots in the Dutch home's metal structural framework after the home is delivered, and after the home's modules are connected together. Pull the strap to remove any slack in the strap, and fasten it over on itself with the strap buckle.
