How to Decorate With a White Leather Couch and Mahogany Wood Floors

Add a rug underneath the couch. Mahogany floors are durable, but they can still be scratched, especially when a heavy and frequently used item like a couch is placed on them. To protect your floors, a large rug should be placed under the couch. With this combination, a boldly patterned, contemporary rug in colors of black and white would be perfect. The rug has the added benefit of further cementing the couch as the visual anchor in the room.

Place accent tables in the room that either complement the color of the mahogany floor or contrast with it. Mahogany or black tables would be considered complementary in this design scheme. A very light maple finish for accent tables would serve as a contrasting color.

Hang artwork with frames in a matching mahogany color or black to continue the contemporary theme. The artwork itself should reflect both your own personal style and the theme of the room. Choose bright and bold prints or abstract designs in colors that complement the room.

Place accessories on your accent table. Once again, these accessories should mirror the theme of the room and your own personal tastes. Stark white and black vases, statues or figurines are ideal.

Hang draperies. To avoid closing in the room, do not use a dark fabric for your drapes. Rather, choose white cotton duck tab-top or grommet-top panels to continue the contemporary theme. A polished or brushed steel or aluminum drapery rod would finish the look.

Pull the design together with throw pillows. Place several throw pillows on the couch. The pillows should contain the colors you have used in the room: white, black, burgundy (to match the flooring) and any other accent color you chose. This provides the finishing touches for your design.
