Choose a wall for your bookcases. If you have a large collection of books, you may need to dedicate more than one wall. Choose an interior wall for your books and ensure that it is not located in direct sunlight, to avoid having excessive heat, cold or direct light damage your books.
Line up your bookcases. If they are all one height, simply line them up along the wall. If a few are taller, place these tall ones together and surround them with shorter bookcases. For safety, anchor taller bookcases to the wall to avoid having them tip.
Organize your book collection, using any method you like -- by author, subject, genre or by your own personal method. Place shorter books together, and avoid placing often-used titles at the top of tall bookcases so that they will be more accessible.
Decorate your library with accessories. You can place figurines or lamps on top of your bookcases and around the room to give the room more charm. Comfortable chairs and a reading table for a lamp can be placed near the bookcases for easier access and to create a specified reading area.
