Hiding the Cables on a Hanging TV

There are several different methods used to hide television cables from the bottom of hanging TVs. One of the most complicated methods drills holes into the wall behind the TV and feeds the cables down nearer the wall outlet. This method is messy and also limits access to the wires. A less complicated and neater method uses cable guards placed over the wires to hide the wires from view. If you disconnect wires from the TV frequently, do not caulk the guard in place. If you plan to leave the wires there for a long time, then you can caulk the guard in place for a seamless appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach all the cables to the television. Include all electric, speaker, game console and cable box cables. Bundle the wires together with twist ties or zip ties.

    • 2

Place a cable guard over the top of the wires. Fit the wires into the back hollow side of the cable guard. Slide the guard up so that it sits behind the television and hides all of the wires from view. Nail the guard in place with the included attachment method.

    • 3

Caulk the sides of the cable guard to create a seamless line between the wall and cable guard. Allow the caulk to dry for 24 hours.

    • 4

Paint over the cable guard with paint that matches the color of the wall. Allow the paint to dry at least two hours.

    • 5

Stack decorative boxes in front of the cable guard if it is still too visible for your liking. The boxes hide the cables and also add a look of sophistication to the room. Do not stack the boxes so high that any part of the TV is obstructed.
