Choose a color scheme. Depending on where your ski home is, you may draw inspiration from the surrounding area, such as shades of brown, tan, cactus green, turquoise and cream for a ski cabin in Aspen, Colorado, or shades of blue, green and white for a home in the woods of Maine.
Fill the house with rustic furniture, such as finished or unfinished wooden tables and chairs, leather recliners and sofas, wooden sleigh beds and unfinished wood bunk beds. Use tree stumps as side tables for indoors as well as porch areas.
Keep the rustic theme going with assorted home decor pieces for the living room, bedrooms and kitchen. Ideas include wooden-framed mirrors and pictures of family and friends on the ski slopes; plaid and stripe patterns for table cloths, throw pillows, kitchen towels and napkins, comforters, blankets, and sofa and chair covers; and metal lamps and light fixtures. Woven baskets are also accent options, as are old leather trunks, as well as items from skiing and other winter fun.
Use wooden shutters and toilet seats in your bathroom(s). If you have the resources and ability, consider installing a claw-foot tub in your bathroom, or wooden changing screens if it is big enough.
Keep wooden rocking and lounging chairs and benches on your front and back porches, if applicable, as well as a small wooden table or two.
