Curved Interior Design Ideas

Curves may be found in homes in terms of structure, such as wall shape and arched doorways. Alternatively, curves can be incorporated into furniture pieces, artwork and kitchen cabinetry. Curves provide relief from cookie-cutter-box type rooms and straight lines and are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
  1. Curved Kitchen Countertop

    • Kitchen countertops can be made in curved designs so that they resemble a semi-circle, which makes food preparation a cinch when you are standing in the middle of the curve. Add an extension that is also in a semi-circle shape as a bar/eating space. Place stool chairs around the extension.

    Curved Office Desks

    • Curved office desks are very practical. The desk wraps around in such a way that you have easy access to items in front of you, to the left of you and to the right of you all at the same time. Position your computer in front of you, for example, your printer/fax on one side and office supplies on the other side. Curved desks can also accommodate drawers on each side below the desk.

    Curved Furniture Pieces

    • Many chairs are designed with curved backs, legs or seats that are functional. Other pieces of furniture such as curved shelving units may not be practical but certainly add a sense of whimsy and uniqueness to any room. Coffee tables, side tables, divans and headboards may also have curved lines.

    Decorating Curved Walls

    • While it might not be possible to hang traditional picture frames on curved walls, there are other decorating solutions. Paint a mural on a curved wall, or apply mural wallpaper or regular wallpaper. Use peel-and-stick stickers to liven up curved walls, or position tasteful posters that reflect your interests or personality on curved walls.

    Make Your Own Curves

    • Decorate a plain door archway by adding curves to it. Purchase a curvemaker kit, remove the existing door casing and assemble the wooden pieces yourself to create a dramatic archway. Alternatively, create curved window trim and curved millwork, and then paint the desired color.
