DIY Fabric Backsplash

A fabric backsplash is an inexpensive way to add a pop of color to any kitchen. It is especially appropriate if you are renting and unable to make permanent changes to your living space or if you like to change the look of your kitchen often. Because you choose your own fabric, you can customize the color and design to fit in with other decorative elements in the kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a template of the space where you will install your backsplash, using a pencil, a large piece of paper and scissors. Include any outlets or light switches.

    • 2

Find a plastic supplier and have them cut a piece of plexiglass using your template. Ask them to include holes for screwing the piece to the wall.

    • 3

Choose a fabric that matches the decor of your kitchen and cut it to the size of the plexiglass plus several additional inches of fabric on each side.

    • 4

Cover the plexiglass with the fabric. Pull it tightly across the surface and secure it with glue. Fold the extra fabric over the edge of the plastic and glue it to the back. Carefully cut the fabric at the outlet holes, fold over the edges and secure them to the back with glue.

Hold the backsplash up to the wall in the spot where it will permanently hang. Using the predrilled holes in the plexiglass as guides, drill holes into the wall. Screw the backsplash into place using screws.
