Decorating Ideas for Coffee Hardwood Floors

Coffee-colored hardwood floors make a bold statement when used in your home, as your eye will naturally focus on the furniture rather than the floor itself. The key to successfully decorating your home with dark floors is to add furniture, paint and wall decorations that complement rather than clash with the deep color of the floor. Many colors can be used in combination with coffee-colored hardwood floors, as the darkness of the hardwood floors works well with many color palettes.
  1. Painting

    • Paint your area's walls a neutral color to create a peaceful living or workspace or leave the walls white with a bold accent wall to add personality and increase energy in the room. The dark hardwood floor combined with the brightly colored wall balances the amount of light and darkness in the room. Avoid painting the walls dark, as this creates a dreary effect in a room that already has a large amount of dark color.

    Furniture

    • Fill the room with white or oak furniture to balance out of the coffee color of the hardwood floor. If you wish to use dark furniture, place a light-colored or bright area rug under the furniture to balance the floors with the furniture. A bright-colored furniture piece, whether it is the couch or an individual chair, adds personality to the room and becomes the focal point of the room. Add bright-colored or patterned accent pillows to your couch or chair to reduce the darkness in the room.

    Wall decor

    • Add posters or prints to your wall with a coffee-colored frame or place the artwork in a polished metal frame to reduce the amount of dark color in the space.

    Floor Rugs

    • A large area rug protects your hardwood floors from scratches and lightens up an otherwise dark room. Light rugs are suitable in rooms that don't receive lots of light, as the bright color of the room enhances the airiness of the space. Place a non-slip mat underneath the area rug to prevent furniture from shifting while in use.
