Bright Bedroom Themes for Kids

Select a bright and colorful theme for a kid’s bedroom to create a space that is inviting and eye-catching. Choose colors that best fit the child’s taste and personality, and tie every aspect of the room into the selected theme from the wall paint to the furniture and even the bedding and pillows.
  1. Rainbow Theme

    • Create a colorful rainbow bedroom with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet colors for a bright kid’s bedroom theme. Paint the walls blue and create a large, colorful rainbow, either with paint or a large vinyl wall decal, across the wall above the child’s bed. Purchase or paint the existing furniture white to best complement this colorful theme. Choose bedding with a rainbow pattern and lay seven small pillows in each rainbow color at the head of the bed. Hang long, sheer, white curtains on the window and place colorful rugs on the floor. Place a shelf along one wall and fill with small plastic bins, in each rainbow color, for storage and organization.

    Sunny Day Theme

    • Recreate a sunny day in a kid’s bedroom for a bright decorating theme. Paint the walls and ceiling a sky blue and paint white, puffy clouds in various places around the room. Purchase and install a ceiling fan with wide blades and paint bright yellow to resemble the sun. Use white furniture in the room and contrast with vibrant yellow bedding and curtains. Place a large green rug on the floor to create the illusion of grass to complete the outdoor sunny day theme.

    Beach Theme

    • Design a beach-theme bedroom for a bright and relaxing kid’s bedroom. Paint the walls and ceiling a deep blue and paint the lower foot of the room a sandy yellow color to resemble the ocean shore. Place vinyl wall decals of clouds and seagulls in various places around the room and a large yellow sun near the ceiling to complete the look. Choose wicker or white furniture and select bedding and curtains in solid blue or with a nautical pattern. Decorate the walls with photos of ocean seascapes in shell-covered picture frames. Use colorful, plastic sand buckets for storage or books, toys and other items to keep with the theme.

    Stripe or Dot Theme

    • Create a bright bedroom by using stripes or polka dots in the child’s favorite colors. Use wide painter’s tape to paint stripes of alternating colors on the walls, such as green and blue or white and purple. Paint the walls a solid white and place large vinyl wall decals of circles in various colors, such as pinks, purples and greens to create a polka dot bedroom. Complement the vibrant wall décor with white or brown furniture. Choose solid color bedding in one of the wall colors instead of a pattern to avoid the room becoming overly stimulating. Find décor items, such as frames, clocks and storage bins, in square shapes for a striped room and round shapes for a polka dot room to complete the looks.
