How to Decorate a Small Bedroom With a Double Bed

Paint the walls in the small bedroom in a light green, a periwinkle blue or a pastel color to give the appearance of a larger room. Avoid dark colors, which will make the room appear small and drab. Paint the baseboards, molding, trim and doors a bright white and if budget permits, install a light shade of carpeting to the floor to brighten the space. Choose a simple, white overhead light fixture to provide lighting to the bedroom and avoid large, low-hanging fixtures which will highlight the small room size.

Opt for a minimalist approach when it comes to furniture for the small bedroom, especially since the double bed is taking up enough space in the room. Choose bed linens and pillows for the double bed in a crisp, solid color, such as white or a pastel shade and avoid bright, busy patterns which distract from the room. Hang long, sheer curtains on the windows, attaching the curtain rod near the ceiling, to make the window appear longer. Avoid short, thick curtains in dark colors, which block light and make the window space look smaller.

Decorate the small bedroom with a variety of decor accents designed to create the appearance of more space. Place several long, narrow mirrors along one wall to reflect the room and make it seem larger. Use long picture frames, bright colors and slender vases in the room but avoid overcrowding and cluttering the room with too many knick-knacks. Let the double bed be the main focal piece in the room and build the accents around the design and linen colors of the bed.
