Animal-Themed Nursery Wall Ideas

The possibilities of decorating your nursery walls with an animal theme are nearly endless. When choosing animals, there's no right or wrong way. The key to designing a nursery with an animal theme is the colors that you select for your design. Your nursery's walls, whether for a baby boy or girl, can be decorated with any animal theme of your choice.
  1. Themes

    • Some ideas for an animal-themed nursery include baby farm animals, jungle animals, circus animals, insects and animals found in the woods and in a pond. Animals for a farm theme include chicks, lambs, calves, piglets and ponies. Walls can be covered with jungle animals like lions, elephants, zebras, parrots and giraffes. Create a circus-themed nursery with elephants, seals, lions and horses and and an insect-themed nursery with ladybugs, grasshoppers and butterflies. Decorate a nursery with animals found in the woods, such as deer, bears and rabbits, and with pond animals like frogs, turtles, dragonflies, snails and ducks.

    Colors

    • An important factor when decorating an animal-themed nursery is the colors you use. Typically, a nursery is designed with pastel colors like pink, powder blue, yellow, lime and peach. You can, however, use primary and secondary colors, which are brighter and bolder than pastels. Pastel, primary and secondary colors are all appropriate for nurseries and give the animals a cartoon-like effect instead of a realistic one, which works best for a baby's room.

    Designs

    • One way to decorate your nursery's walls with an animal theme is to paint a mural. Paint a farm scene or a jungle scene or circus animals performing tricks, for example. Another way to decorate is to apply wallpaper with an animal theme to the walls or to simply paint the walls and then apply an animal-themed wallpaper border. Stenciling a border of animals around the walls of your baby's room or decorating with animal decals is another idea.

    Other Images

    • Complete the look of a nursery with an animal theme with other images on the wall aside from animals. Don't just paint a wall full of animals. For example, if you have a jungle theme, include images of trees and grass and, if you have a circus theme, paint colorful pennants around the wall or paint a circus tent around the room. Likewise, include images of sunflowers, a tractor, barn and fence for a farm animal-themed room and a pond with cat's tail plants for a pond animals-themed nursery.
