Paint Ideas to Break up a Tall Wall

When you’re decorating, don’t forget about the walls. Bare walls can make a room look boring. And in a room with very tall walls, the problem is even more noticeable. Fortunately, there are several paint ideas you can use to break up a tall wall and in the process liven up a room.
  1. Frame Game

    • Hang empty picture frames with the glass removed on the wall. Use an arrangement that takes advantage of and is well balanced in the large expanse of vertical space. Then use any color or combination of colors to paint whatever design, pattern or picture you like inside the frames onto the wall. The practically endless selection of paint colors that exists means you can make the wall art work with the color scheme of any room.

    Pristine Scene

    • Murals are a good option in any space, but on tall walls they’re especially eye-catching. Hire a professional artist, or purchase an easy do-it-yourself mural kit. If you are artistically talented or the mural is a simple one, try painting it freehand. Paint any scene you like: a blooming garden, a starry night sky, a city skyline, a jungle full of animals or sandcastle-building on the beach.

    Bands Plan

    • Stripes are another attention-grabbing idea. They are versatile: paint vertical stripes to accentuate the height of the walls, horizontal ones to balance out the height, or some fun diagonal ones. Paint stripes on all the walls or on only one accent wall. Use just two shades of paint, or get whimsical and use three or four colors. Use stripes that fit the room’s occupant: pastel hues for a girl’s bedroom, sports team colors for a husband’s man cave.

    Double Trouble

    • A two-tone paint treatment is ideal on a tall wall as you have the space to really showcase the colors. Paint the top half of the wall one color and the bottom half another color, and install a chair rail between. Use two colors of the same shade, such as peach and orange or lavender and violet, or you could use two different colors that complement each other well, such as dark red and cream or pale blue and dark gray.
