Feng Shui Remedy for Bedroom Doors

The ancient Chinese art of feng shui is the method of arranging space and objects to achieve a positive flow of energy or "chi" in your life, home and work space. The bedroom is important in feng shui because we recharge our chi as we sleep, and furniture positioning in relation to the doors can have a strong negative or positive impact on mental and physical well-being. By applying the concept of the feng shui "command position," negative chi is counteracted and the flow of positive chi encouraged.
  1. Bed Position

    • The bed position in relation to the door is important. The bed should face the door but never be directly opposite. Positioning the bed so your feet point out of the door when you lie in bed is called the coffin position, because traditionally when you die you are carried out the room feet first. Compass positions are less important when it comes to positioning the bed; the position of the bed in relation to the door outweighs concerns of compass positions. Position the bed with a solid wall behind it and don't place your bed under a window, as this allows chi to escape as you sleep.

    Distance from Door

    • The bed should be positioned as far from the door as possible, so you are not exposed to strong chi energy as it enters the room. The further away from the door the bed sits, the more space chi has to dissipate and surround the bed with calming, restful chi. This creates a feeling of control over your life. If the door is on the left, position the bed on the far right of the room and vice versa. If the door is positioned in the center of the wall, position the bed on either the far left or the far right of the room.

    Door Visibility

    • You should have a clear view of the door when you are in bed, without straining or stretching. You should be able to open your eyes and see the door straight away. If you cannot see the door -- if the room is oddly shaped and the door is hidden around a corner for example -- this creates the feeling of life sneaking up on you when you are unprepared. A clear line of sight to the door creates a sense of readiness and preparation for life's events as they unfold.

    Other Remedies

    • Often, a room is simply too small or shaped in such a way as to prevent you from following the guidelines of the command position. For example, if your bedroom is only just large enough for your bed, and the only way to position it is facing the door, there is little you can do about positioning the bed in a different way. In this case, hang a multifaceted crystal from the ceiling in between the door and the foot of the bed. This reflects negative or strong chi as it rushes in through the door. If possible, ensure the door opens completely and oil hinges so they don't squeak.
