How to Make a Frame Directly on a Mirror Molding

A mirror molding is a decorative strip that runs around the edge of the mirror. It frames the mirror, helping the mirror stand out from the wall, but on its own, the frame might not be particularly attractive. If you wish to cover your mirror’s molding, use strips of wood trim or molding to give your mirror a new look. While covering a mirror molding does require some woodworking knowledge, the project can be completed quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure each edge of the mirror molding using a measuring tape.

    • 2

Cut four pieces of pre-finished wood trim corresponding to the edges of the mirror using a saw. Choose a wood trim that is at least as wide as the molding.

    • 3

Bevel both ends of each of the four strips at a 45-degree angle. This allows the four pieces to fit together like a picture frame.

    • 4

Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the bottom of one of the strips and press it to a corresponding molding. The wood strips should hide the molding entirely.

    • 5

Secure the trim to the molding with several strips of masking tape.

    • 6

Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each wood strip.

    • 7

Allow the wood glue to cure completely. The amount of time this takes is referenced on the back of the glue’s packaging.

    • 8

      Remove the masking tape.
