How to Hang Polyvinyl From Ceilings

Polyvinyl is a thin plastic material that’s water-resistant and comes in a wide range of patterns and styles. The material is ideal for transforming a dull space into a colorful area for a party or special event or even as a permanent room decoration. Hanging it from the ceiling can be done using one of several methods.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the polyvinyl to the exact dimensions of your ceiling. Cover the ceiling in strips of double-sided tape, spacing each strip approximately 6 inches apart. Have an assistant help you line up one corner of the polyvinyl with the ceiling corner, and press it into place. Gradually stick more of the polyvinyl to the tape until it covers the entire ceiling smoothly.

Create a bunched look with the polyvinyl by attaching it to the ceiling in the center of the material with a staple gun. Gather a piece of the polyvinyl inward toward the center and staple again. Continue the gathering and stapling process until the polyvinyl is attached to the ceiling.

    • 3

Attach small polyvinyl pieces to the ceiling for a patchwork effect by placing a piece of sticky tack material in each corner. Press the polyvinyl shape onto the ceiling. Overlap the shapes or line them up with one another to create a pattern.

Cover the backs of polyvinyl shapes with a urethane glue, and press directly to the ceiling for a permanent installation.
