Sea Bathroom Ideas

For anyone who loves the beach, a sea-themed bathroom can be a reminder of that favorite place. Beach and ocean items such as shells and coral will enhance the decor. Bringing nature indoors also helps to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. A sea theme works well for bathrooms in vacation homes or beach houses.
  1. Walls

    • Paint the bottom third of the bathroom walls a sandy beige color and the remainder of the walls an ocean blue to mimic the sea meeting the sand at the beach. Don't make a crisp, harsh line where the colors meet. Instead, have the meeting of the colors blend. Alternatively, paint all the walls an ocean blue color, and paint or apply vinyl wall stickers of various forms of sea life to decorate the painted walls. This will give the bathroom an underwater feel. Sea-themed wallpapers and borders are yet another option for bringing the sea theme to your bathroom.

    Bathroom Accessories

    • Bathroom curtains, rugs and decorative towels can be purchased with an imprinted or embroidered sea theme. Solid-colored accessories work well, too, when purchased in colors that match the decor you've chosen for the walls. Transform plain towels and rugs to match the bathroom by using a sand dollar or starfish stamp to stamp a pattern onto the items. Alternatively, fish stencils and fabric paint can be used in lieu of shells. Decorate other bathroom accessories, such as a soap dispenser or toothbrush holder, by stamping, stenciling or decorating with vinyl stickers to match.

    Seashells

    • Find creative uses for seashells throughout the bathroom. Large, flat shells turned upside-down are perfect for holding decorative soaps, small plants or tea light candles. Glue small shells along the edge of the window curtains, the shower curtain and the corners of picture frames. A collection of shells made into a wreath is another idea for a wall hanging. Fill small baskets or containers with assorted shells, and place them on the window ledge, sink top or bathroom shelves. Extra-large shells can be turned upside-down and filled with smaller shells, as well. Fill the bottom of small glass jars with sand and small shells, and use them for storing bathroom accessories like cotton balls and cotton swabs.

    Sea-Themed Accents

    • Transform your own favorite beach vacation photos into wall art for the sea bathroom. Other wall art ideas include images of sunrises or sunsets over the ocean and underwater photos of fish. Other sea items, like coral or driftwood, fit in with the theme and make decorative accents for the room when hung on the walls or placed on countertops or shelves. Lighthouses, anchors, fishing net and ship wheels are other items that complement the sea theme.
