DIY Wire Racetrack

Tangled cable arrays can draw attention away from your home entertainment center, especially when the color of the cables clash with your decor. Wire racetracks, called raceways when they're combined, enable you to both organize your cables and hide them in plain sight. The track pieces cover your cables between your components and a junction or outlet. Keep your home entertainment area organized and uniformed using a wire raceway system.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of your accessory joints. Factor these lengths into your measurements for your racetrack's segments.

    • 2

Measure the area where you'd like to run your racetrack, taking measurement for each segment required to build your racetrack. Mark the measurements for each section onto the wall with a pencil. Account for the accessory joints between segment measurements.

    • 3

Mark your measurements onto your racetrack. Use a surface raceway cutter tool to cut the track into sections required for your installation.

    • 4

Align the first segment of track up at your starting point. Secure the track to the wall, using the track's adhesive strip. For screw-type tracks, use the screw holes in the base track to mark the screw locations on your wall or baseboard. Remove the track, and then drill holes at the markings. Replace the track, and then secure it with its screws.

    • 5

Snap the accessory joint onto the end of the first segment. Secure the joint to your wall or baseboard, using the joint's screws or adhesive. Install each subsequent joint and segment, using the same technique you used for the first pieces of track.

    • 6

Feed your wire through the beginning of the track and out through its end. Connect your cables to the electrical junction box at the end of your run, and then install the end cap over the junction; use the end cap's screws or adhesive to close off your racetrack.
