DIY: Wall Hangings for a Baby's Room

You have many and varied choices for wall hangings in your baby's room, but few showcase your baby's development and personality. Creating a photo garland highlights and preserves every sweet facial expression and precious gesture, allowing proud parents to relive those moments for many years. While other wall hangings feature subjects that are outgrown and put away, baby photos are treasured memories, and the photo garland becomes a special keepsake.

Instructions

  1. Taking Photos

    • 1

Charge or change the battery and make space on the memory card. Ask a relative or friend to help. Designate someone to take pictures and someone to interact with your baby.

    • 2
Natural light is the best choice when taking baby photos.

Decide where the photos will be taken. Select a well lit room with natural light or an outdoor location, such as a backyard. Babies require comfortable temperatures so choose a place that is not too hot nor too cold. Dress your baby appropriately. Whether it's a silly costume or a sweet outfit, look for signs of discomfort.

    • 3
Focusing on your baby's body parts, such as fingers and toes, makes pictures more intimate and personal.

Make funny sounds and smile for the baby as you take the photos. Take note of gestures and facial expressions. Zoom in and focus on eyes, lips, fingers and toes.

    Edit Photos

    • 4

Turn on your computer. Upload photos to the computer using a USB cord or inserting the memory card. Using photo editing software, open each photo individually. Crop and re-size to a 5-by-5 inch square.

    • 5

Turn on your printer. Check ink levels. Print two photos per sheet of glossy photo paper, sized 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

    • 6

Cut out each photo with a paper trimmer. Arrange photos in the order you'd like to display them.

    Display Photos

    • 7

Punch a hole in the top left and top right corners of each photo with a hole puncher. Measure 3 to 4 feet of the twine, add 2 inches and cut.

    • 8

Take one end of the twine and loop it through the top left hole of the first photo, pulling the twine and threading it through the top right hole. Repeat until all photos are strung together.

    • 9

Choose a wall to hang the photo garland in baby's room. Tack one end to the wall. Slightly pulling the other end of the twine, straighten the garland to the desired length and tack.
