How to Decorate With Seafoam Green Leather Sofa and Black and White

Tones of seafoam green with black and white can convey the monochrome serenity of a seascape, especially if seafoam and black are muted. Since a seafoam green leather sofa is a large, prominent feature, it's helpful to identify its undertone before selecting other items, particularly when other colors are incorporated. Frequently a cool, pastel green with a blue undertone, seafoam green can have a yellow undertone instead of blue. By using tonal or textural contrast, pastel seafoam green is strong enough to stand alone as a hue -- lightened and grounded by white and black accents.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint walls with an opaque, whitish-coral latex paint. Apply a wall glaze in translucent seafoam green, brushing it over the opaque, whitish or light coral underlayer to provide subtle, textural tone-on-tone contrast with the cool seafoam leather sofa. Add pillows, lamp shades and an upholstered chair in dark, cool green-grays, while adding seafoam cut-glass lamp bases. Place a large, textured white rug on the floor, relating to a white fireplace and wide white crown molding. Hang a black-washed framed mirror over the fireplace, corresponding with a muted, black-washed coffee table.

Paint walls pale coral to blend with orange-brown wood floors. Consider coral because it's a near complement or color wheel opposite to seafoam green. Add wide white wooden blinds, relating to white pillows and wide white crown molding. Lay a white rug with black geometric designs on the floor, and to ground the light palette, hang a grouping of black frames in proximity to black end tables. Include a few small accent items, such as vases, bowls or pillows, in intense coral, aqua or teal.

Select an antique black coffee table, end tables and frames; antique black has a purple undertone that contrasts well with the yellow undertone in warm seafoam green. Paint walls a medium warm-gray with purple undertones, which will enhance the warm seafoam green sofa. Hang gauzy, warm seafoam green curtains on a wrought iron rod, adding a dark, warm-grey upholstered chair. Include a textured off-white rug, a large, off-white tufted leather ottoman and a single wide whitewashed frame.

Apply an underlayer of light coral latex paint, adding a layer of crackle medium. Following the manufacturer's instructions, brush on a seafoam top coat for an antique look. Hang simple white curtain panels on a black wrought iron decorative rod. Flank the seafoam leather sofa with white shabby chic-style end tables, adding white textured pillows and a white textured rug. Hang a black wrought iron pendant light or chandelier. Add an asymmetrical grouping of slender antique black frames, possibly adding a wide, white shabby chic mirror.
