DIY Muffin Cup Wall Decor

Muffin cups, also called cupcake liners, are much more than throwaway wrappers for tasty treats. These inexpensive, readily available papers can be used to create wall art, such as a long line of flowers reminiscent of cherry blossom art or specific shapes such as hearts or interlocking rectangles. Thumbtacks give the cupcake liners an extra splash of color, or opt for removable poster adhesive if you don't want tack holes in the walls. Mix muffin cup colors for a festive pastel art piece or stick with one shade for a more monochromatic and unified look.

Instructions

    • 1

Plot your design on the wall using chalk. Trace an outline of a branches to act as the base for a line of flowers, a favorite phrase, or random amoebalike shapes for unusual, organic-inspired art.

    • 2

Place a thumbtack through the center of one muffin cup so the tack head is on the inside of the cup. Press the tack along the chalk lines you've drawn.

    • 3

Place a miniature muffin cup in the center (or slightly off center) of a regular-sized muffin cup. Press a tack through both pieces.

    • 4

Push the tack containing the two cups next to the first piece on the wall, also along the chalk line.

    • 5

Continue pushing tacks through variations of single or double liners, pressing the tacked papers onto the wall along your guidelines until the entire design is covered. Keep papers close enough to one another to touch if creating a continuous design.
