Hang up a curtain rod by drilling the brackets onto the wall. Select a curtain rod to cover the entire width of the window next to the breakfast nook.
Slide a modern-patterned curtain onto the curtain rod. Purchase a curtain that will cover the window but will not hang more than 3 inches below the window sill. Choose modern-looking patterns, such as black-and-white or colored geometric shapes, bold stripes or simple dots.
Cut foam adhesive strips, using scissors, that measure 1 inch wide and 4 inches long.
Lay another modern-pattern curtain flat onto a table with the patterned side laying against the table and the casing portion of the curtain pointing toward you.
Peel the protective covering off one side of a foam adhesive strip and press the strip horizontally along the top edge of the curtain. Repeat to press adhesive strips along the entire top edge of the curtain.
Peel the protective coverings off the front of the foam strips, then press the curtain around the edge of the breakfast nook table.
Repeat to cover the entire edge of the table with modern curtains.
