How to Cover the Middle Bracket of a Curtain Rod

Covering the middle bracket of a curtain rod can help to make the hardware blend in with your window treatment — or make it part of your decorating theme. The bracket supports the rod to keep it from bending under the weight of the curtain. A long rod tends to sag if it's lightweight, and heavy rods need extra support in the middle to reduce the risk of pulling the mounting hardware out of the wall. Choose a method to cover the bracket that suits your color scheme, curtains and the mood of the room.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the bracket to match the wall so that it blends in with the decor. Covering the curtain rod bracket with paint makes it less noticeable. Paint provides full coverage for the end and underside of an inexpensive metal bracket, without calling undue attention to the hardware. Alternatively, paint the bracket to match the curtain rod, so that the effect of the matching curtain rod support becomes part of the window treatment.

Wrap cloth ribbon or a decorative cord around the bracket. Use a color that coordinates with your curtains or tie-backs. For example, if you have silky gold tie-backs, wrap gold rat tail cord around the bracket from the wall to the front of it. Check the effect from a distance. Glue the cord or ribbon across the front edge of the curtain rod bracket to cover it completely.

Glue a decorative item to the end of the bracket. A flat item, such as a coin, medallion, doll dish or decorative piece of wood will cover the end of the bracket without interfering with closing the curtains. For a subtle look, choose an object that matches the wall or the curtains, or go for a bold look that complements your decor, such a Chinese coin with a tassel or a colorful doll dish.

Cover the middle bracket with a three-dimensional decoration, such as a silk flower or artificial vine. Choose a decoration that coordinates with the room's decor, such as a rose, sunflower, ivy, morning glory or orchid, depending on the color and mood of the room. Wrap the stem of the artificial flower or a faux vine around the entire bracket and arrange the flower or end of the vine over the front of it to cover the entire bracket.
