How to Get a Monochromatic Look on the Exterior of Your Home Using Brick

In interior and exterior design, a monochromatic color scheme uses varying shades of a single color. Since bricks are already usually monochromatic -- often one brick matches the next perfectly -- it is fairly easy to make the entire exterior of your home conform to a monochromatic color scheme.

Instructions

    • 1

Use only one type of brick. Bricks can be identical in color or can come in a variety of colors. Purchase extra bricks in case you need to replace them someday.

    • 2

Match mortar to the brick color. Mortar is colored with mineral pigments and can be tinted to match any color of brick. By matching the mortar to the brick or by tinting the mortar in a shade close to the color of the brick, the wall takes on the appearance of being a solid color.

    • 3

Match siding and the roof to the color of the brick. Use a siding and roof color that is the same color but a different shade as the brick. Do the same with the front door and trim.
