How to Replace a Circular Kitchen Tube Light

No matter what type of light fixture you have in your kitchen, it's a certainty that one of light bulbs will burn out at one time or another. If your kitchen is lit by circular tube, or florescent lighting, changing the bulb for the fixture is different than changing a traditional screw-in bulb. With a little time, some patience and a gentle touch, you can replace a circular tube light, restoring the light in your kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the light fixture. Allow the bulbs to sit for a few minutes so that they can cool off.

    • 2

Place a step stool under the light fixture. Step up on the step stool and remove the cover on the light fixture. This may require either unscrewing bolts or unsnapping clips around the cover that hold it in place.

    • 3

Place one hand on each end of the light bulb. Gently twist the bulb in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

    • 4

Pull the bulb out of the fixture carefully and set it aside.

    • 5

Hold the replacement bulb directly underneath the fixture. Line up the pins on either side of the bulb with the openings on the sides of the fixture that are intended to hold the pins.

    • 6

Push the bulb slowly into the fixture. The pins on the end of the bulb will slide into the openings on the sides of the fixture. Turn the light bulb gently to secure it in place.

    • 7

Replace the cover on the light fixture.
