How to Figure Yardage to Reupholster a Wing Chair

When you are reupholstering a wing chair, one of the first questions to ask is how much fabric you need. Upholstery fabric is expensive, but it is important to purchase enough to cover your wing chair completely. Another important thing to remember is that in cases where you need to match patterns, you will need more fabric. Assess your upholstery needs before purchasing your fabric to ensure you neither under-buy nor over-buy.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine every part of the wing chair that needs upholstery, including the arms, the seat, the back and the base.

    • 2

Measure across the widest point of each part you have designated using a flexible measuring tape and add 4 inches to each measurement.

    • 3

      Add all the measurements together.

    • 4

Divide the sum you found in step 3, in inches, by 36. The result is the yardage you need for your wing chair.
