Instructions

    • 1

Measure the top panel of each door with a tape measure. Cut three pieces of mirror with glass cutters; cut one piece to match each of the panels. Exercise extreme caution when cutting glass.

    • 2

Sand the back of each mirror with coarse grit sandpaper to expose the silvering underneath the protective surface. Wipe away the excess dust from the back of the mirror with a soft cloth.

    • 3

Pour nitric acid into a spray bottle. Lightly spray the nitric acid onto the back of each mirror. Allow the acid to sit on the mirrors for at least 10 minutes before wiping it clean with a soft cloth dipped in water.

    • 4

Sand the doors with a coarse grit sandpaper to smooth any rough surfaces and expose older layers of paint. Paint one coat of crackle paint on each door to exaggerate the antique look of the divider. For a more subtle look, try using a colored glaze instead of crackle paint.

    • 5

Affix the mirrors to the panels on the doors with heavy-duty super glue. Reinforce it with clear caulk around the edges of the mirrors. Allow the glue and caulk to dry for at least six hours before standing the doors upright.

    • 6

Assemble the divider by attaching the doors in accordion style using heavy-duty hinges. Place three hinges along the top halves of the doors and three hinges along the bottom halves of the doors. The top and bottom hinges should be at least two feet apart.
