How to Build Your Own Sofa Nook

At the end of a long day, sometimes you just want to curl up in a cozy corner to read or watch a movie. Create your own snug sofa nook for the perfect place to relax and unwind. This corner setting uses a painted bookshelf to give the illusion of a small, three-walled alcove holding a sofa and handy table.

Instructions

  Sand the backs of the book shelves with a medium-grit sandpaper. Wipe down the sanded shelves with tack cloth to remove any grit or dust.

  Paint the back of each book shelf with one coat of primer, using a foam brush. Allow the primer to dry completely.

  Paint the backs of the book shelves with a thin coat of latex paint to match your walls. Allow the paint to dry, then add another coat to the book shelf backs. Let the paint dry and set for 24 hours.

  Place a side table in a corner of the room. Position a table lamp or reading lamp at the back of the table.

  Place a sofa along the wall directly next to the side table. Push the sofa almost up against the table, but leave about one inch of space between them.

  Place one book shelf with its back against the other arm of the sofa and one end up against the wall. Place the second book shelf flush against the first one, creating an unbroken line that looks like one long set of shelves.

  Stack books and other objects on the book shelves. The shelves will serve as a short wall, dividing the room into two separate areas.
