Do It Yourself Headboards With Metal

Top your bed with a metal headboard and make it the eye-catching focal point of your room. Though metal is often thought of as a hard, cold material, when combined with the softness of bed linens and pillows, this material takes on a striking, inviting look. With some creativity, you can make a one-of-a-kind metal headboard that will add certain interest to your room and make your bed pop.

Instructions

Turn a metal trellis into a headboard. You can either purchase new metal trellis from a home improvement store for a clean look or visit a thrift store or salvage yard to find an aged piece and create a vintage look in your bedroom. Hang a single metal trellis on the wall behind your bed in a horizontal position, or attach two or three trellises to the wall behind your bed in a vertical arrangement.

Create a headboard from corrugated metal. Purchase a sheet of corrugated metal from a home improvement store in the size that you want the headboard to be. For an understated, yet eye-catching modern look, use the sheet of metal as-is. Alternatively, draw a design on the metal with a marker and cut out the design with a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting attachment. Attach the corrugated metal headboard to the wall behind the bed.

Transform a metal gate into a decorative metal headboard. As with the trellis, use a new metal gate for a clean look, or use an aged gate for a vintage look. Hang a single gate above your bed in a vertical or horizontal fashion. Alternatively, hang a large, decorative landscape picture on the wall directly above your bed and hang a gate on either side of the picture.
